I’LL NEVER FORGET THAT

World War II veteran, Sherwin Callander, served in the Navy. His ship arrived at Pearl Harbor after the attack where he was tasked with search and rescue. The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor resulted in over 2,000 causalities.  

 OVERVIEW: 

 At the conclusion of this lesson, students will be able to • Understand how music played a role during World War II. • Write lyrics and music to depict WWII veteran Sherwin Callander’s story.  

 STANDARDS:

  AL: 1: Composition and Theory Describe and demonstrate how sounds and musical ideas can be used to represent sonic events,memories, visual images, concepts, texts, or storylines. AL: 11: 9 Social Studies Describe the significance of major battles, events, and consequences of World War II campaigns, including Pearl Harbor.
