CONDITIONS OF SURRENDER

The Japanese government signed the Instrument of Surrender to end World War II on September

2, 1945 aboard the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay. In this lesson, students will analyze the official

Instrument of Surrender to better understand the conditions of the surrender. They will also

research the dignitaries that were present at the surrender to understand the widespread impact

of the surrender of World War II.
