In an interview, Charles Henry shares his experience as an African American Army soldier. He reflects on the hardships and the providence he witnessed during his military service.

Many veterans can recount being involved in several major battles in the war. America’s involvement began at Pearl Harbor and helped the Allies win the battle that would lead to the end of the war. Sherwin Callander played an important role in both events.

Harold McMurran was drafted into the 56th Maintenance Division of the Army. On D-Day, his responsibilities suddenly shifted to infantry. At 7 a.m. on June 6, 1944, McMurran began the fight of his life on the beaches of Normandy.
